Beschrijving

Dit product is beter bekend als Nylon®. Nylon® is een oude handelsnaam voor polyamide van Dupont en is nu een algemeen gebruikte benaming geworden. Er zijn een groot aantal types in de handel, waarvan de PA 6 en PA 6.6 de belangrijkste zijn. PA6 is een Europees type, dat zeer taai is en gebruikt kan worden voor lagers, tandwielen en kabelschijven met zowel een dynamische als met een statische belasting.

Het PA6.6 met zijn oorsprong uit de Verenigde Staten heeft een betere bestandheid tegen slijtage en hydrolyse, ook het temperatuurbereik ligt iets hoger, wat hierdoor de doorslag kan geven. Slagvastheid en dempend vermogen nemen daarentegen wel af. Beide types hebben goede mechanische eigenschappen, gekoppeld aan een laag wrijvingscoëfficient. De vochtopname is echter in beide gevallen tot aan de verzadiging zeer hoog, namelijk +/- 10%.

Naast de bovengenoemde extrusie producten bestaat er ook het zogenaamde Gietnylon (PA6G); dit is gemaakt van dezelfde grondstof als PA6, maar heeft door het speciale gietprocedé een harder oppervlak (dus iets slijtvaster) en is spanningsarmer en daarom geschikt voor grote vormstukken. PA6 en PA6G worden toegepast op plaatsen waar slijtage het productieproces verstoort. Om specifieke mechanische eigenschappen te verbeteren, kunnen ook additieven toegevoegd worden zoals: Glasvezels, MoS2, olie, hitte stabilisator en vaste smeerstof.
